Steve - Student Learning - Art - Stitching - Aug 2018 - rm 4

The students wanted to continue this activity of showing art through stitching.
The above show the engagement of the students. I had to stand back and let them work independently bar the time frame I stipulated. This art work is being shared through our Seesaw app.
Standard 5. Design for Learning: We set the scene by exposing them to stitching, then found a place or use for it, as in using this art as a practise and completeing one for 'Fathers Day'. This involves more stitching, different stitches, shared and co-operative work, and the learning is driven by thier found abilities and interest.
- Providing opportunities for co-operative learning, peer tutoring, reciprocal teaching and inquiry learning to occur.
- Providing ākonga with opportunities and time to apply feedback and feedforward information to improve their mastery of knowledge and skills.

Margaret - Observation of Steve's writing session
Observation of Steve's writing lesson using Pobble. Purpose was to pick up some behaviour management strategies and see how Steve runs the writing so I can continue on the same page when I am in Room 4. Very useful for me to take into my own teaching, especially watching his time management,getting students to teach each other and getting the students all working quite quickly through the task. Will make time while I am on placement to observe Craig and Judy Anne also.Link to standard

Margaret - Cook Island Week Activities
Cooking groups - students were in charge of organising their groups - collecting ingredients, following instructions, cooking waffles, cleaning up (not so great)
Paper Tivaevae - this could link in with our sewing.
Cook Island week was a chance to do some fun activities with the students while integrating the topic into all curriculum areas - writing, reading, maths, research skills, group work, art, Te Reo.
The class worked very well together in the run up to making Coconut Waffles. They had to type up the recipe from me reading it out which was a good way to ensure they all knew the recipe before they started cooking. They managed to organise themselves in their cooking groups also without too much directions - giving themselves different roles and making sure everyone had a turn. Would like to continue with this topic as the students were very engaged and lots of information to follow up on through their mini research. Would try cooking again but with a more successful recipe. The Cook Island donuts I made with room 1 were much tastier.
