SeeSaw: investigating seesaw as activities providers. I spent some time locating interesting and engaging resources. I trialed the first activity "What is the main idea and what are 3 supporting details from the text. The students then watched the video and answered 5 questions.
 This scaffolding led me to introduce the ALL programme. The students were taken out and introduced to the task coming up. 

October 2019. The number of posts has increased from 263 to 790. All families bar one are interacting with their child/s learning.


Things to be Thankful For! The next Seesaw activity is allowing for 
presentation of their findings, and the use of audio to suppliment it. Response so far is 
very good.

Steve - TBCS - St Johns First Aid - October 2018

Kathryn from St Johns came to run through Outdoor First Aid, especially for the Year 7 & 8's who are tramping the Abel Tasman in week 3.

All students participated pairing up to put on bandages, check DRSAB = Danger, Response, Send, Airway, Breathing.

The game played where they in groups had 5 minutes to right a list of things the would take on a tramp. They then were presented with scenarios of dangers they may find on a tramp. Hypothermia was the final diagnosis which all groups managed to work through the treatment and process.

Well worth undertaking for all Room 4.

A good presentation targeted to the outdoor environment and issues that may arise, from blisters to bee stings to hypothermia.

Steve - Student Learning - Art - Stitching - Aug 2018 - rm 4

The students wanted to continue this activity of showing art through stitching.
The above show the engagement of the students. I had to stand back and let them work independently bar the time frame I stipulated. This art work is being shared through our Seesaw app.
Standard 5. Design for Learning: We set the scene by exposing them to stitching, then found a place or use for it, as in using this art as a practise and completeing one for 'Fathers Day'. This involves more stitching, different stitches, shared and co-operative work, and the learning is driven by thier found abilities and interest.

• Providing opportunities for co-operative learning, peer tutoring, reciprocal teaching and inquiry learning to occur.
• Providing ākonga with opportunities and time to apply feedback and feedforward information to improve their mastery of knowledge and skills.

Next Steps. Allow time for the students to complete this activity and set them up for completing the next.

Setting up Seesaw on students laptops

Room 4 were posting onto seesaw only through the ipad before so they could only do this one at a time.  Steve and myself thought to make this process simpler and more efficient we could put the seesaaw app onto their laptops so students can post straight from there.  Today was a huge learning curve for everyone, myself included.  Steve set Finn up with Seesaw first, then he proceeded to teach two others, then they two others until the whole class had it set up and knew how to post there writing tasks.  There are still a few issues to work around such as some students cant seem to post from google docs and taking the time each break to check and approve work before they are posted.  Each time we go through this process of having the students learn the skill, then teach to others, I learn something new too to apply within the class, while reinforcing for the students.  As a result, more individual items are going home to families on the same day as its being completed and students can see comments from parents immediately.

Steve-Pastors Visit-21 June 2018-staff

Our annual invitation to Pastors to visit over breakfast had to change this year. Due to staffing times and issues, a breakfast wasn't going to work.
We rescheduled for a 9-30 visit with the Principal before a walk through of the classes, followed by a morning tea.
We started in Rm 4 where the children were working through Literacy via Google Docs being shared on the big screen, editing and children adding information for parents via Seesaw.
Room 3 was next where the children were working through mathematics.
Rm 1 was just finishing a group talk and was dispersing for different activities.
They then joined our whole school for the start of day procedure (which we had rescheduled so that they might see it) for prayers, bible verse discussion and milk.
We then adjourned to the Library for morning tea. A good discussion time was had with staff and pastors.
We closed in prayer and thanked them for their visit.

Next Steps. Redo this process, much better for seeing what Christian Schools look like.

Facebook of all things has a connection between Seesaw and the SAMR. I has a quick read and then forwarded this to the other teachers. It is especially relevant to our improvements in Seesaw.

End of Term 1 Reflection - Judy-Anne

This term seems to have flown by which is quite amazing since in reality it was a long term. I found running Preschool Play dates to be quite challenging as being on show to large groups is outside my comfort zone. It is one of our ways to promote the school though so needs to be done. They seem to have gone well and I think we have a relatively easy 'formula' programme to follow now.

We have used see-saw quite a lot. The children were initially reluctant to post their work without me checking it but are generally happy to do so now. We have good buy in from the parents and often the feedback is really fast. I have made one activity for them to follow and that was really successful. A number of the girls spent about 40 minutes writing that day - they found that they got words underneath their writing so they didn't need to know how to spell everything plus they got pictures to add as well. Some of the boys chose to record their work and made a great job of coming up with good sentence structure and relatively good sound quality.

My big challenge is figuring out how to make ICT an integrated part rather than an end in itself.

Next steps:We need to look at improving the quality of our audio in videos so need to look at what better quality means and then find a way to be recording for our subjects- maybe it will be writing.
